Pakistan Rice

La Centrale Trading (Pvt.) Ltd. aims to be a leader in exporting high volumes of the finest quality rice to satisfy increasing demand of its customers world-wide. Let’s talk about rice. Rice is ancient. The history of rice is in itself intertwined with the history of human civilization, and the two are almost as old as the other. Rice has long been, and continues to be a bellwether of progress and adaptability. Rice and civilization are concomitant, and this inspires us here at La Centrale. We believe rice is not a commodity alone, it is a culture all to itself. Rice is an event.

The latest genetic evidence reveals that all forms of Asian rice, both indica and japonica, trace their origins from a single domestication event some 8,200–13,500 years ago in the Pearl River valley region of China.

Rice, La Centrale’s primary commodity focus, is an adaptable and versatile crop. From the arid conditions of Saudi Arabia to the wetland deltas of Southeast Asia, the food crop enjoys a truly global presence.

Rice is the staple food of more than half of the world’s population – more than 3.5 billion people depend on rice for more than 20% of their daily calories. While Asia accounts for 90% of global rice consumption, the picture outside Asia, where rice is not a staple yet, the picture is rapidly changing: per capita consumption is growing. Rice is the fastest growing food staple in Africa, and also one of the fastest in Latin America. Global rice consumption remains strong, driven by both population and economic growth, especially in Asian and African countries.

In sub-Saharan Africa, rice is the fastest growing staple food. Annual per capita rice consumption has doubled since 1970 to 27 kg and continues to increase rapidly in most countries, caused by high rates of population growth and changing consumer preferences. Urban dwellers who rarely ate rice only a few decades ago now consume it daily.

It is in this rich historical and consumption context that we situate Pakistani rice, including IRRI 6 and IRRI 9. We further source rice from Thailand, Vietnam, India, Burma and Uruguay.

Our promise is simple: premium quality and efficient delivery and only the highest standards.
